Now, you women, hear the word of the LORD; open your ears to the words of his mouth. Teach your daughters how to wail; teach one another a lament. Death has climbed in through our windows and has entered our fortresses; it has removed the children from the streets and the young men from the public squares. Say, “This is what the LORD declares: “ ‘Dead bodies will lie like dung on the open field, like cut grain behind the reaper, with no one to gather them.’ ” This is what the LORD says: “Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches, but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me, that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,” declares The Lord! Jeremiah 9:20-24 NIVIn spite of what many may say about women in service to The Lord, God knows the heart of each of us and He knows who will hear and obey.
Who are some of the notable women mentioned in the Bible? There are far too many to include in this blog today, but I'll mention a few. Deborah was the wise consultant that led armies to victory. Hannah prayed and changed the fate of Kings through Samuel. Esther stayed before Lord, fasting, waiting to hear and then saved her people from total destruction. And we cannot ignore Mary--no matter how hard some may try--the vessel by whom our Savior was born--pure, undefiled, blessed. Then Paul makes mention of women by name--acknowledging their role in ministry.
Let's face it--when we go into almost any church across the land, we tend to see more women in the building than men. Grandmothers have prayed for grandchildren so they would stay out of harm's way. Mothers have prayed for children to find success and happiness. Wives have prayed for husbands to hear what God says. Sisters (both biologically and spiritually) have prayed for nations and peace in the land. Praying women have always made a difference and we shall continue to pray and make a difference.
Wise women always turn to God and seek His direction. And when God speaks to them, they are usually quick to hear and obey. Even though men have for centuries dominated the land in positions of power, the real power lies in the heart of every woman praying for them.
Therefore, no man should ever belittle women and what they can and have accomplished. When men belittle women, they do so out of insecurities--fearful they may be outshone by a woman. Real men honor and respect all women--knowing they have strength and courage beyond anything they could ever imagine. After all, it was women who carried the men--before they were born--and many carry them long afterward in life--always praying for them. This is true for the Godly women--regardless of ethnicity or religious preference.
Today, I encourage all women to seek God and His wisdom, praying and fasting, until we can turn this nation around--seeing an end to violence and hatred.
