So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ. For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority. Colossians 2:6-10 NIVJust like the tree roots that have received all it needs to burrow deeply beneath the ground and reach into crevices--breaking through weak areas--and sometimes causing upheaval of cement--Believers should be deeply rooted in the love of Christ--breaking through all the demonic forces before us.
Imagine how different the world would be if our love for Christ and others were like the trees whose roots spread beneath the houses and the sidewalks--getting into every tiny crack and opening, overflowing with love into the heart of every person we meet and greet on a daily basis!
While it is true that tree roots can cause much damage when their route impedes functionality of sewers and drains--they also strengthen the life of a tree and when the tree life is strengthened--the benefits are maintained. What are the benefits of trees other than being beautiful? They provide a source of oxygen for all who breathe, a home for squirrels and birds, shade in many situations, and for fruit-bearing trees--food and nourishment for many.
However, when a tree is damaged--by winds and animals and people--they cease to function as they should and need attention. If the roots are strong, the tree will survive, but when the roots are dead, the tree will begin to decay and crumble--sometimes causing more damage if it tumbles from the rages of the wind.
Have we nourished our roots with continued study of The Word and focus on God would have us do or are we about to fall in the next storm of life? I pray that we are providing our roots continued nourishment and that we are so strong in the love He has given us that we are breaking through--the mindsets of those who don't know Him so they will receive the love He offers. The more we love and people receive God's love--the stronger we get and as we spread love--the enemy's tactics are exposed and crumble.
If we have not considered the strength of our roots, let's examine ourselves and cut away any decay that would hinder our breakthrough in reaching out to others with the love of Christ! When our love in Christ is deeply rooted, the benefits for all are immeasurable for the more we love, the more effective we become in stopping the enemy's plans to destroy all that God loves!
