Therefore, since through God’s mercy we have this ministry, we do not lose heart. Rather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience in the sight of God. And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. For what we preach is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake. For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ. 2 Corinthians 4:1-6What does it mean to be conscientious? It means to be governed by one's conscience; controlled by or done according to one's inner sense of what is right; principled.
Are we governed by our inner sense of what is right and principled? If not, to what do we attribute our sense of justice and in doing what is right?
There are those who--not understanding the work of Holy Spirit--who say they are led by their consciences--the inner workings of their minds based upon their knowledge of a situation or right and wrong. And they believe with everything in them that they are truly conscientious about what they do. They could be right--as along as their conscience is governed by Holy Spirit speaking to their hearts.
Therein--lies the difference--some people are led by what their mind perceives as truth based upon human ability to comprehend the events unfolding around them and some are led by Holy Spirit--who speaks to our hearts--attuned to Him. When we rely upon Holy Spirit to guide us--we don't have to rely upon human knowledge, but Holy Spirit knows so much more than mere mortals.
We must remember that the enemy speaks to our minds and unfortunately, so many people have allowed their fleshly emotions to guide what they think and the enemy enjoys watching us wallow in self-pity and chaos, not knowing which way to go or to whom to turn. And then we do things--that are not just or right--and claim we were doing what our conscience led us to do and when we see calamity--our consciences are not convicted because we have no heart by which we can hear Holy Spirit. When we have a heart for God and His people, even if we ignore Holy Spirit speaking or misunderstand Him--when the outcome of a decision leads to travesty, our consciences are seared--we are consumed with guilt and attempt to make amends for our actions.
Looking around at what we see in our nation, I'm praying that those in a position to make a decision that will ultimately affect the entire world--will be guided by Holy Spirit--speaking to their hearts and their hearts will guide them in making conscientious decisions--doing what is best for all. I know God is working on the hearts of many, I just pray people will be obedient when they hear Him speak.
If we are all conscientious--allowing Holy Spirit to speak to our hearts and from the abundance of what is in our hearts--we act--we can rest assured that everything will be all right in the earth! We will be the light that guides the world out of the darkness that attempts to reign in the hearts of those who do not know The Lord!
