Success Begins With A Step

No matter how badly we may to accomplish anything worthwhile, until we make the first step to get it done, we'll never know how successful we could be. This applies to every area of our adult life.

Too many times, far too many people are inhibited from seeking success because someone told them they couldn't or wouldn't be able to do what they wanted to do. I've heard those same comments, but I want to make sure everyone knows--you never know what you can do until you try. Success stories seldom occur because life just dropped success in someone's life. People have to try and some have to try harder than others. There is one exception to this quaint notion--and that's for those who were born into luxury and had everything they ever wanted--handed to them, while they made no effort at all to accomplish anything. Whatever is accomplished by the rich and famous without effort is not success--it's privilege and often not very fulfilling. That's one of the reasons the "rich and famous" do more stupid than the average person.

But let me get back to the discussion at hand. The best way I can offer insight as to what I'm suggesting is to provide examples from my own life.  Since I've shared portions of my life story countless times in my blogs I won't bore the reader with redundancy. So, let's start with my move to Houston--where I knew no one, didn't have a job, and no money to speak of. Some said I was crazy to try, but then--I've always loved a challenge. I moved, found employment and stayed four years. The only reason I left was to support my mother while living in the same state (I had been supporting her financially for two years and it was becoming burdensome).

For me, coming back was the biggest challenge--with a potential job no longer available to me, I had to wonder how I would make it, but I did. I'm about as tenacious as a pit bull--refusing to let go. At any rate, I managed to do what was needed and found a job I loved. That ended with a car accident that prevented me from doing the job--mostly driving. At any rate, sitting at home for three years waiting for lawsuits to be settled, I decided to go back to school and finish that BA I'd started many years earlier. Funny thing about going back to school in your 40s, you feel out of place in a classroom with much younger students, but I decided not to let that bother me. I ended my last semester on the Dean's list with a 3.6 GPA. Imagine that!

From there, I decided I loved learning and continued my education--completed a MA, obtained my teaching credentials passing all the required testing--the first time. Then I decided, what the heck, might as well keep going, so I applied to a graduate program, was accepted and completed all the coursework towards a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction (teaching teachers). A significant change for the worse in the teaching field caused me to pause and rethink the direction I was taking. I no longer had a heart to encourage people to enter a field that was not a viable career. When I retired, I wasn't sure what I wanted to do, but the 2016 election--propelled me in the direction of political activism and that is where I am right now, seeking support for a presidential run in 2020.

I'm not just seeking support, I'm actively involved in the process as some readers may know. I'm happy to report that all the top slots for Michigan government that I supported and promoted were successful. I spent hours knocking on doors, distributing literature, and making some phone calls. I spent even more time promoting the candidates online and talking to people wherever I went. My first time on an election ballot resulted in a loss, but it didn't deter me. I was on the ballot for a precinct delegate and the person who won--by 18 votes-- has never put in an appearance to do the job--I did. As a result, post-midterm election, I am now on the Executive Committee of my county's democratic party, and a current nominee for secretary for the local Democrat club. My involvement with my online promotions for candidates got me more attention that I thought. On a personal note--just so some understand--there was no pay involved in anything I did--all volunteer--all to make sure Democrats won in Michigan. And I'll do it again, as often as needed. The upside to all of this is--I met all the candidates and had chance to talk to them. People are beginning to recognize me and it's all because of a step I took.

There are some who think I won't make it to the White House. They may be right, but their attitude won't stop me from trying. I've already taken the steps needed towards success, but not everything we try is successful as others measure success. What I've been successful at doing is getting my name out there in the atmosphere, stratosphere, cybersphere or however one wants to call it. I've had people threaten me because of my political stances and distaste of trump. I've had people applaud me because of my political stances and distaste of trump. So, success is all about the angle or perspective from which one is looking. I'm headed in the right direction to achieve my goals and right now, I'm confident I'm going to get there. Being Thankful!

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:12-17 NIV

When we understand how God does things--not necessarily how we do them--and remember to thank Him for all things, He never lets us down.

Many are the plans of man, but only what God has planned will work. I see that so often in my own life that I know I should never be concerned about anything and what the end result will be. But human nature--such as it is--always leans upon one's own understanding of how things should be instead of allowing God to guide. However, when we know--He's in charge--and allow Holy Spirit to speak to us--and we listen--all things really do work for the good of those who love The Lord.

When we allow The Word of God to guide us in all things--loving one another, showing compassion towards all, providing all things honest in the sight of all--as His chosen people, we see His results for all we do.

For the past year, I have served in a volunteer capacity with our school's Band Boosters as the treasurer. With the help of the past treasurer--who is a real jewel and treasure all by herself--we managed to do all we needed to do and enjoy success with our fundraisers. Last night was the culminating event--a celebratory banquet--recognizing the accomplishments of our school bands and honoring those to whom honor is due. Though we had a rocky start in the planning, God showed us the way and the event was a delight for all who came.

I am usually not a pessimist--more a realist--and I wasn't sure how things were going to turn out, but I decided to trust God and I said, "Whatever You want it to be, Lord, that's what it will be." And it was! I am so grateful and thankful to be His and for His love!

Sometimes, we miss the practicality of applying The Word to our lives and as a result, we miss receiving God's best in our lives. Moments like last night, remind me that we should always apply The Word to our lives in all situations and there is nothing--absolutely nothing--we could ever experience, plan or do that is not covered in The Word.

Glory to God! What a blessing to rest in His peace and know joy in the midst of confusion of chaos and uncertainty, He is right there! Thanking God for all things--whether I understand them or not.

Why Listening Matters!

My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you,turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding—indeed, if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding,and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure,then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God. For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul.Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you. Proverbs 2:1-5, 10, 11 NIV

There is so much more to be said about this passage, but space limitations in order to engage others must be considered. I encourage all to read and re-read, and re-read Proverbs--at any time, at all times because wisdom for all situations resides within these pages.

However, if we choose not to be wise then our fate is determined by our actions and choices. A person would have to be a complete fool to misunderstand what Solomon is saying--void of any desire to succeed according to the knowledge of God.

Not that most of us have not been foolish at one time or another. Like the time we didn't listen to parents because we thought they were simply being mean--not understanding that their rules were established to protect us. Or the time we ignored the teachers who were trying to guide us in accessing information that would help us later in life. Or the true friends who tried to warn us about an affiliation with those who were headed in the wrong direction and like lint clinging to wool--we clung to our rebellion and landed in the pits of despair. And don't forget the preacher--who may not have been living right, but preached The Word--and because we could see through them by looking at their lives--we chose not to listen.

Throughout Proverbs Solomon pleads for us to listen, hear and obey God's Word. If we dare to listen and obey--we'll see the kind of success that God has designed for us and stay away from those who only want to see us fail.

We have to learn to tune-out the naysayers and doubters and the frustrated and rebellious. They are bitter because they would not listen to Wisdom when they heard it and don't want us to listen either. It's time we cleaned out our ears--both physically and spiritually--and listen (not just hear) to what The Lord has to say to us. Are we listening yet?

Throughout Proverbs we are warned about wickedness, rebellion, adulterous behavior and laziness and encouraged to reap the benefits of listening to Wisdom and accepting the knowledge of God, understanding how He wants us to live. Will we heed the warnings and reap all the Good or will we ignore Wisdom and sink to the depths of wicked? The choice is ours and we must make it now for tomorrow is not promised and we may never get another chance to re-do anything!

On The Journey--Nun!

Your word is a lamp to my feet
And a light to my path.

I have sworn and confirmed
That I will keep Your righteous judgments.

I am afflicted very much;
Revive me, O LORD, according to Your word.

Accept, I pray, the freewill offerings of my mouth, O LORD,
And teach me Your judgments.

My life is continually in my hand,
Yet I do not forget Your law.

The wicked have laid a snare for me,
Yet I have not strayed from Your precepts.

Your testimonies I have taken as a heritage forever,
For they are the rejoicing of my heart.

The 14th letter and stanza--gratitude for God's Word in the direction our lives take.

How is God's Word a lamp for our feet and a light on our path?

When we consider how paths were lit before streetlights or lamplights were invented, foot lamps were used along a public path, set into the ground so people could see where they were going or any hazard in their way.

God's Word is indeed a light--it illuminates truths so we can see where we're headed if we don't obey and when we obey. In God's Word, we discover when we're on a path that may be hazardous to us, if we pay attention. When I remember what was said to Joshua, I can see how the writer has come to this conclusion. "If we keep God's commandments, whatever we put our hands to will prosper and we'll have good success." On a path to success, if we obey, we'll make it and if we don't, we won't.

Have we made a commitment to keep God's Word--primarily to love Him and everyone else? If we love Him, we'll always do what is right and pleasing in His sight; if we love others, we'll not do things that could harm them. This is the commitment to keeping God's Word!

And when we have made that commitment to keeping God's Word, we can better handle the attacks by the enemy. Unless our lives are threatened, we don't have to worry about stooping to the level of the enemy; we just speak God's Word over our lives and pray for our enemies that they will become enlightened by God's goodness. For we know--because of the testimonies given by others and how God sustained them, even in the midst of adversity--that He will do it again. He is the same God--yesterday, today, and forever and we can count on Him.

Have we totally submitted our hearts to God in keeping that commitment alive? Have we opened our hearts to receive all the love He has for us so we'll have more than enough to pour out on others?

If we have no love in our hearts, we certainly cannot hope to have love for others. We cannot give what we do not have. Before we can keep His Word, we must receive His Word and all the love that comes with it.

What The Wise Get!

Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still; teach the righteous and they will add to their learning. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. For through wisdom your days will be many and years will be added to your life. If you are wise, your wisdom will reward you. If you are a mocker, you alone will suffer. Proverbs 9:8-12 NIV

The wise person will always seek one is wiser than they are to instruct and guide them--not only in spiritual matters, but in everyday matters. For it would be foolishness to seek understanding from one who has not demonstrated understanding of how God works and His plan for all.

In every area of business--no matter how big or small--the successful person or business does not gain success simply because of who they are or what they know on their own, but because of wise guidance--by those who have traveled the path before and know the way.

If we do not know where we're going, we cannot lead others anywhere. This is true in business and in the church. If there is no plan to succeed, failure is the only option.

A business plan includes anticipatory results--a budget and a timeline to implement all activities. A good business plan will also include the possibility of not meeting goals and will always provide a contingency plan.

Wouldn't life be so much easier for many if we just had a contingency plan? That is not to say we should anticipate failure, but that we should consider other options to ensure success. In order to get from one destination to another--we have to be prepared for the detours so we don't get stuck in one place.

Knowing there will be detours in our lives--the unexpected challenge or obstacle--we should always have a back-up plan and a back-up plan for our back-up. This is what we need to do to move forward in the natural.

On the spiritual level--we need Holy Spirit to direct us at all times. If we truly relied upon Him, He would warn us of those obstacles and we would know that a plan of escape has already been planted in our spirits, so we will not fail--but succeed.

Now, the measure of success is a matter of perception and perspective. I learned a long time ago to see my success as having accomplished all that I set out to do. And all of my success--is because of who He is, not who I am. Going back to school as an older adult and getting on the Dean's list--was all because of Him. Even when I was tired and couldn't see straight--studying--He gave me strength and courage to keep going. As a result, not only did I complete a BA, but continued to an MA and now, have completed all coursework for a Ph.D--considered by academia--an ABD.

It is because of Him--that new dreams are becoming a reality and He is paving the way for things I had not even considered--because I am always seeking Him for direction; I know all will be well.
The same God--the only wise God--is ready to pour out His wisdom upon all who seek Him. The wise indeed get wiser when they are willing to learn. When we learn of Him and from Him, we know true success in all areas of our lives.

Come and See His Great Works!

"Shout for joy to God, all the earth! Sing the glory of His name; make His praise glorious. Say to God, "How awesome are Your deeds! So great is Your power that Your enemies cringe before You. All the earth bows down to You; they sing praise to You, they sing the praises of Your name. Come and see what God has done, His awesome deeds for mankind!" (Psalm 66: 1-5 NIV)

After a sea-tossed night, twisting and turning in bed, trying to remember if everything has been done to assure a successful day, I woke--remembering those things I forgot to do and now must find a way to do before the first session begins. And before I could panic, I remember hearing God say before I fell asleep--"I've got this!"

I had been telling people all week, "God's got this" no matter what happens--what people do or don't do. So, His reminder again this morning set me straight and got me going--energized and ready for the day--so I can say, "Come and See His Great Works!"

Because of vandalism to one of our banners, I now have to "re-do" some work, but I will and it will all work together--for the good of the event that raises funds to support our band.

This week has not just been about preparation for our fundraiser, but the experience has taught me lessons--life lessons--that I won't quickly forget.

Trust God--not people for people will let you down.

Prepare for the worst, but always expect the best--when we belong to Him--His best is always better than our best.

Stay focused on what He can do, not yourself--no matter how much we know, our knowledge is limited, while His is infinite.

Start early--doing whatever needs to be done--from the planning to the preparation to the actual doing. Late starts result in confusion and something being left undone.

Give thanks and sing His praises no matter what happens.

Breathe--deeply--and know that He who created our very beings, knows how to settle us and calm us before the enemy has time to plant his seeds of doubt.

Know that God loves us and His love will sustain us when we remember that all we do--is all about Him and bringing Him glory, not ourselves.

This list could go on--but I'm getting an early start for final checks and getting ready to see what Great Works He does throughout this day!

O Give Thanks!

"Oh, give thanks to the LORD! Call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples! Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him; Talk of all His wondrous works!" (Psalm 105:1,2 NKJV)

Sometimes, just because we cannot see all that God is doing, we tend to get frustrated and discouraged and forget all the good things He has done. What He has done before, He'll do again and again and again. We don't have to see what He's doing, we just have to believe that He is doing. And with that thought, I have a praise report!

My grandson is in his high school band and I'm a member of the Band Boosters organization--we have to raise money to supplement the band's needs which are not covered by the school's budget. Every year, for the past twenty years (this will be year twenty-one), the Band Boosters hosts a Band-O-Rama--a performance by a number of area bands who are using this event as a "dress rehearsal" of sorts for the Band Festival where the bands will be ranked by a panel of judges.

Because of on-going conflict between the out-going president (when they lost the election) and the newly-elected executive board, things had not been shaping up well. Some of the schools we invited, were turning us down for various reasons, but Holy Spirit revealed that they were not pleased with how they were treated last year. This year, I'm chairing this enormous event and discouragement keeps trying to seep in and get in my way, but I know the power of prayer and I believe that my Daddy loves me so much, that He'll never let me down.

Instead of moping about what is not being done, I just jumped in and started doing whatever I could to make things work. We knew we were running a risk--financially--but we're determined to move forward. Did I mention that I'm also the new treasurer? I'm looking at the dollars and cents dwindle as I write checks and "I don't see" how we're going to make it happen--a positive memorable event, but I didn't see God working until yesterday.

After a meeting with the food service director seeking their assistance, I went home, determined to keep a stiff upper lip. About five minutes after I got home, I received a phone call from the director and what he tells me leaves me speechless. His boss had decided that not only would they donate items they had given in the past, but the school district had decided to pick up the tab for the items we had purchased from them. I could hardly believe it! This meant a considerable savings to us with our food concession.

I love to praise God and give Him glory for all He does and I did. By the time I got off phone, the director was laughing and calling me "crazy lady." Yes, Lord, I'm crazy about my Daddy and how good He is! Hallelujah! I quickly emailed the executive board and the band director to let them know and I have a "bear hug" reserved for the business manager.

Glory to God! O give thanks! Wonderful Savior! He is good all the time and all the time, He's God--all by Himself!

Not to be greedy, we still need donations of a few more items--a couple of tents and a cot, but I'm sure God will provide and as I lay in my bed this morning, thinking of His goodness and thanking Him for speaking to the hearts of people who can help, tears rolled--the magnitude of His love--is always amazing and fills my heart with joy!

O Give Thanks to The Lord For All He Has Done--for the victories He's already won!

Invest Time In Doing, More Than Watching!

"Whoever watches the wind will not plant; whoever looks at the clouds will not reap. As you do not know the path of the wind, or how the body is formed in a mother's womb, so you cannot understand the work of God, the Maker of all things. Sow your seed in the morning and at evening let your hands not be idle for you do not know which will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both will do equally well." (Ecclesiastes 11:4-6 NIV)

Does anyone remember the old adage, "a watched pot never boils?" It is not entirely true, but what happens is that while a person is watching the water, it seems to take forever to start boiling. The fact of the matter is--when water reaches a specific temperature--usually 212 F or 100 C (depending upon altitude and purity of the water), it will boil--whether we watch it or not, but the principle here is--since we know it will boil, why watch it?

When we plant seeds into the ground--planting anything--will it grow any faster if we watch it or can we tell what is going on beneath the soil when we cannot see it occurring?

Even though we cannot see (without technology) how a body is formed from conception to birth, we know--given time (unless something impedes the growth), a baby will be born. We didn't have to watch it to make it happen.

Children, once they reach a certain age (puberty), and as long as they are brought up in a nutritionally sound environment, they grow by leaps and bounds and even if we are watching, we miss some of the subtle changes and often, we are amazed when it appears that a child has grown overnight.
The same is true of our obedience to God in order to see the promises fulfilled. When He inspires us to do something, we have no need to "watch" it, but just to do and have faith that what He has put on our hearts will succeed. If He has planted the seed, He will water it and it will grow.
 However, we must be certain that the seed was planted by Him and not our desires, without consulting Him.

This is what I've learned about my own investment of time in writing. I did not understand "why" the Lord spoke to my heart and directed me to write--explaining scripture--and blog it daily. I did not understand why--at certain intervals in my composition of books--He stops me and has me to write something expounding on His Word--for publication. As long as I do what He is telling me to do, I know He will fulfill every promise made and honor every request I've put before Him.

I love watching how many people are reading my books, but sometimes--when the numbers decline (and they do), I tend to get discouraged--momentarily. And then, just like a loving parent--He reminds me that the outcome of my writing--the gift He has given me--is not about me, but it's all on Him. I don't have to watch the sales or how many clicks the books are receiving. I just have to write--exercising the gift He has given me. In the fullness of time--whenever that is--His promise will be seen and I don't have to know how He accomplishes all that He does; I just have to believe it.

The million plus readers we've petitioned Him for are coming to past--growing daily. Now, I just have to continue to write, totally trusting Him to speak to the hearts of all He would have to read what I write, and enjoy the efforts of my labor when it's harvest time. Glory to God! I've only seen the beginning of the harvest to come, but I know when it's time to gather it in--it will be all that He planned from the beginning of time.

So, let's not waste our time in watching (trying to understand) to see how God will bring things to past (ministry, families, careers, etc.) but trust that He will and keep doing what He's told us to do. 

When We Fail, Who Do We Blame?

"Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall. Whoever gives heed to instruction prospers, and blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord. The wise in heart are called discerning, and gracious words promote instruction." (Proverbs 16:18, 20,21 NIV)

The Word provides us with much insight about wisdom and pride. Not only through the proverbs, but through James who says, "If any lack wisdom, ask of God who gives liberally and won't upbraid (find fault with) us for asking" (James 1:5 paraphrased) It would appear from this simple statement that James understood all that was said about wisdom through the insight given to Solomon and other sages.

Wisdom is referenced as a  female in several places, but the female reference is also used to warn against adultery and other folly.

A wise person receives correction and instruction from wise counsel. Only a fool rebels against correction and instruction.

But who is wiser than God? No, not one human being is wiser than God. God gave Solomon wisdom and Solomon shared what God had given him, but he never assumed he was wiser than God.

Proverbs 4:5-9 NIV
vs. 5 Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or turn away from them.
vs. 6 Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you.
vs. 7 The beginning of wisdom is this: "Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.
vs. 8 Cherish her, and she will exalt you; embrace her, and she will honor you.
vs. 9 She will give you a garland to grace your head and present you with a glorious crown."

When we ask God for wisdom--insight to solving problems and addressing issues, we must not only hear what He says, but know how to apply what He says. For instance, we can obtain information and not know what to do with it and if we don't know what to do with the information we have, what good is it?

If we establish guidelines and protocols to ensure order in all that we do, yet we do not follow the protocol and chaos erupts, what was the point of establishing the guidelines in the beginning?

Many motivational speakers, successful corporations--large and small--understand that without a sound plan and adherence to the plan--success is not possible.

Jesus tells us in another passage of scripture that,"a wise person considers the cost of building anything before they start to build."(Luke 14:28 paraphrased).

On the flip side of exercising wisdom is the conduct of a fool who allows his pride to rule. And there is much said about fools in Proverbs,

"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, but fools despise wisdom and instruction." (Proverbs 1:7 NIV),
"The tongue of the wise adorns knowledge, but the mouth of the fool gushes folly." (Proverbs 15:2 NIV)
"The lips of the wise spread knowledge, but the hearts of fools are not upright." (Proverbs 15:7 NIV)
"A hot-tempered person stirs up conflict, but the one who is patient calms a quarrel." (Proverbs 15:18 NIV)

What I'm taking from all that is said about wisdom, knowledge and fools, is that if we don't know God or know how to seek Him when making decisions, we set ourselves for failure because we allow our pride to keep us from seeking Him.

"Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed." (Proverbs 15:22 NIV)

Herein is the heart of the matter. When we think that our plans can succeed without wise counsel or consideration of all involved in the planning, our plans are doomed to failure. Though they may appear to succeed for a moment; the final outcome tells the whole story.

The difference between success and failure of any entity or individual lies in the ability one has to set aside pride (the "I" mentality) and to seek wisdom from wise counsel. If we do not think we need to heed wise counsel and instruction, then our failure is our own and we must look within to determine how we change the course of events.

Are we wise enough to seek God today for every decision we make or will we allow our pride to cause us to fail? We are the only ones who can make that decision for God does not make anyone do anything.

I pray God's wisdom will overflow into your hearts today and pride will never be the reason for failure in any area of your lives.

"You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised." (Hebrews 10:36 NIV)

The difference between those who succeed at one level than those who barely succeed--doing anything--is the level of commitment to keep going, keep refining, keep fine-tuning, keep revising, and keep believing that success is theirs. We know that true success is not achieved by a level of intelligent, but by a level of determination that no matter what happens, the focus is forward, not backwards.

But can there be success without failures in the interim? No--it is the failures that drive true success. We have but to look at Thomas Edison, Stephen King, Benjamin Franklin and so many more. We tend to believe that the success enjoyed by some occurred overnight because we only focus on the final result--not the journey to get there. So, for those who are weary and feel like giving up, today is not the day.

When God gives us a vision it is because He knows our capabilities beyond our doubts.

When we have obeyed Him in all things to please Him, He promised to give us the desires of our hearts and we must remain focused on the prize in order to receive the promise.

When things don't go the way we expected, we take a critical look at what happened, analyze the whys and gear up to keep going.

When we think we have reached the end of our rope and all hope is gone, we tie a knot before we get to the end of the rope, and hold on, expecting help because He said He'd never leave us alone.

Every ministry poured into us will succeed as long as we keep our eyes on Him, not people, always seeking His wisdom for direction and guidance.

Every dream we have will come to pass, if we just keep the dream in front of us and are willing to navigate every challenge that confronts us.

Every promise of God will be fulfilled, if we just listen to His still small voice and are willing to do things His way and not our own.

We were not told that we COULD do all things through Him who strengthens us just to fill words on a page.

We were not told that with God all things are possible because those who wrote the words just had a little time on their hands.

We were not told that no weapon formed against us would prosper for us to sit on our duffs, waiting for something to happen, without doing anything.

We were not told that with His going before us, He is more than the world against us for us hide behind shame and embarrassment with our first failure.

We serve an awesome God--One who created the universe from nothing and His arm is not shortened when it comes to the success of His children! Surely, goodness and mercy will follow us from each failed attempt to the promised success, by reminding us--we belong to Him and every good and perfect--those gifts He has poured into us--comes from above and all things--especially the failures--work together for our good!

In Him and through Him, we have what it takes to accomplish all things as long as we are determined to reach the goal and refuse to allow the failures to stop us at the starting gate. We are more than conquerors, victorious in all things, now let's act like it and get it done--persevering through every obstacle to make it happen!

Worldly Wisdom is The World's Way; Grace is God's Gift!

"Now this is our boast: Our conscience testifies that we have conducted ourselves in the world, and especially in our relations with you, with integrity and godly sincerity. We have done so, relying not on worldly wisdom but on God’s grace." (2 Corinthians 1:12 NIV)

One of the problems we have in our society with boasting--being puffed up with pride--is that we tend to think more highly of ourselves than we ought. We boast of our accomplishments as if we do everything on our own, never giving credit to the One who gives us the wisdom and the grace to accomplish--anything.

But there are some who when they are in the spotlight for winning an award who give thanks to God--I believe with the greatest hypocrisy--since God would not inspire them to sing songs with filthy, inflammatory lyrics, influence them to behave in unseemly conduct in movies and television, or in writing books that are total filth.

Then there are the few--who have accomplished much--who have no problem acknowledging God as the driving force behind their achievements.

I believe when we acknowledge our inability to think of doing anything worthwhile in and of ourselves and admit that it was the grace of God who kept us going--headed for the prize then we will have good success. Worldly wisdom--thinking about how we can impress the world or seeking the world's way of doing things doesn't amount to much to brag about. One of the reasons people claim they don't believe in God is because of science.  Well, I believe in science, too, but God created the world before we had use of the term, science. It is His wisdom and grace that has given mankind insight to understanding anything they understand about how He created things. And yet, with all that scientists (those who study and analyze to explain) have accomplished, they have yet to accomplish--recreating anything from absolutely nothing. Everything man has "invented" was because of the things--God had already created.

So, if we're going to brag about our accomplishments, let's give the credit to God who gives wisdom to all when we seek Him for it.

At the age of 46, I completed a Bachelor's degree; at 50 I went back to school to get teacher-certification, at 52 I completed my Master's degree and kept going until at 58, I had completed the coursework for my Doctorates degree. I have written over 25 books, published a gospel quarterly, written several plays, conducted a community choir, served as a volunteer chaplain in prison ministry for over 5 years, as well as in VA hospital, and have been promoting the Gospel of Jesus Christ for over 30 years--because of Him and who He is in my life. Hallelujah! I am still going strong because of Him and everything I do, is to bring honor and glory to Him! He has blessed my coming and going and I know He will continue to do so as long as I focus on the things He has called me to do.

My boast is in The Lord and the grace He gives for me to accomplish all He has planned for me to do. Worldly wisdom--considering my age--would have kept me from doing anything, but God's grace was sufficient and carried me through, reminding me that age is merely a number used by man to measure our time on earth. I can do all things through Him who strengthens me and gives me His wisdom to succeed. And the best thing is--He is not a respecter of persons; what He's done for me, He'll do for anyone who Believes and obeys Him.

Good Works Completed!

"In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus."(Philippians 1:4-6 NIV)

Relevance! When we look at what all those God inspired to write--we must ask ourselves or at least be willing to see--the relevance of what was said then to our lives--now.

This letter to the "church" (Body of Believers) in Philippi was to thank them and encourage them to keep doing the good work that God had placed in their hearts, helping them to realize that whatever He purposed for them to do, would be done--in His timing--even if it meant completion when Christ returns.

There are a number of people right now--some may even be reading this post--who have been inspired by God to do something good and wonderful, but obstacles rose and knocked them off track. That's okay. The obstacles are going to rise every time we start doing what God has purposed us to do. But with prayer, the courage of our convictions and determination, and our faith in God, we will accomplish all He wants us to do!

Whether we know it or not--there are people praying for Believers everywhere. We pray that no heart becomes feint or allows doubt to deter them in whatever work God has given them. We pray them strengthened by the power of Holy Spirit. We pray hearts will hear Him when He speaks so we'll know how to overcome those obstacles. We pray for wisdom in recognizing when the enemy has attempted to erect a wall of opposition and rebellion against God and the work He has put in our hearts. We pray for all to understand and use the gifts God has given us to finance all He has given us to do. We have no need to "beg" others to finance the plans God has given us. He has equipped us to accomplish all we need to do with the gifts He has poured into us.

Not every person's gift is the same and it should not be, but all the gifts are given to complement all we are told to do. Some are gifted with musical ability to accompany those with voices who will praise and worship Him. Some are gifted with the ability to teach--explaining those things that others may not understand. Some are gifted with the ability to write--encouraging others by many venues to continue believing in God or in leading people to Jesus Christ. And the pool of gifts overflow our needs. Our abilities are limited only to the extent we have faith to move out in them.

"According to our faith, it will be unto us." Whatever we have faith to do, we will succeed in that area. Whatever good works God has given us to do, when we move out in faith, ready to tackle every obstacle with our courage and faith in Him, that good work will be completed in God's timing. Our job is to hear and obey and allow Him to be God.

Is there a good work that God has put on your heart to do? Know that we're praying for all He has given to all Believers to be accomplished, hearts strengthened, obstacles moved or torn down, and courage renewed in all you do. Stand firm in what you have been called to do and know the good works will be completed.

Division!

"He knew their thoughts, so he said, “Any kingdom divided by civil war is doomed. A family splintered by feuding will fall apart." (Luke 11:17 NLT)

Who knew? Jesus knew what those around Him were thinking and He addressed their thoughts.
 Division results in failure, unity results in success and forward moving.

When there is division in a family and people take sides-one against another--there are bound to be hurt feelings and frustrations that lead to actions some--never forgive or forget.

When there is division in society--one group against another--there are bound to be problems that create gaps so wide they may never be closed.

Where there is division in churches--the deacons against the pastor--or the congregants against the deacons--however the division is made--only chaos and confusion will be the end result, causing fracturing and unforgiveness in the minds of some.

So what happens when there is division in the Body of Christ? More chaos and confusion, widening gaps that negate a desire to understand differing points of view, more refusal to forgive--those things that actually have nothing to do with being a Believer, but more about form and fashion (religiosity).

Division--disagreements that lead to not focusing on what is necessary--leads to a malfunctioning entity--no matter what it is--at home, in society, in churches, and especially in the Body of Christ.  

We are admonished to come together--in unity--to address the ills of our society and communities--willing to hear one another and find common ground by which problems can be resolved and no one has to be angry over the results--when we allow Holy Spirit to lead us.

A divided house will fall, just as a divided church will not succeed or a divided nation! If we want to see success--in every area of the lives of people, we must unite in Truth and allow Holy Spirit to have His way in our lives so we can live in peace and harmony, united by Love!

Increasing Learning!

"A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:" (Proverbs 1:5)

A wise man will hear
And hold to him dear
All those things that God speaks,
Providing everything that he seeks.
A wise man increases his learning,
Using what he learns to increase discerning.
One who understands seeks wise counsel
From those who know more, avoiding the hassles
Of life that come with lack of understanding,
Not knowing how living life and how demanding
It will be when we think we know that which we do not!

Every day should bring with it an opportunity to learn something new. Wise people enthusiastically greet each new day, with wonderment, waiting to see what new thing will be exposed to them.

The unwise are not so--they resist learning and are proud within themselves, thinking they know more than they know and refuse to hear wise counsel of others. They are rebellious and haughty, not understanding that their attitude towards learning only impedes their ability to succeed and then when they are not able to rise above the ditch they dug with excuses, they blame everyone else around them, refusing to accept accountability for their own actions.

But The Lord knows those who seek Him for wisdom, and not just things because the wise do not treat Him like He is merely a provider of their desires, but a provider of wisdom and knowledge that prepares and sustains one for life, guiding them in how to obtain the things and knowing the things will not obtain them.

The wise person understands the principle thing--that all must learn--is to hold The Lord in such reverence that they would not want to disappoint Him, but rather please Him and when the person has made this decision, The Lord honors their every request for He has said, "Delight in Him and He will give us the desires of our hearts."

Now, the question is--from whom shall we seek wisdom? Shall we consider our own limited knowledge as wisdom or shall we seek Him who gives us wisdom abundantly, without prejudice or condemnation?

If we really want to increase our learning, we must be wise and seek Him early, while He may yet be found and then do what He says.

The Plan!

"And this is the plan: At the right time he will bring everything together under the authority of Christ—everything in heaven and on earth. Furthermore, because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for he chose us in advance, and he makes everything work out according to his plan.God’s purpose was that we Jews who were the first to trust in Christ would bring praise and glory to God. And now you Gentiles have also heard the truth, the Good News that God saves you. And when you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago.The Spirit is God’s guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people. He did this so we would praise and glorify him." (Ephesians 1:10-14 NLT)

Everyone makes plans if they are going to succeed. Someone once said, "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail!" That makes sense to me. No one has really experienced success at doing anything without a plan.

Athletic coaches have a plan to win--sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, but when it doesn't, they revise/modify the plans until they do work.

Inventors have a plan--a plan that sometimes has to be modified to be successful.

Good parents, sometimes, have plans for their children, but they don't always work because children grow up and exercise their ability to decide for themselves.

Without a plan, people have difficulty not running around in circles--constantly moving and getting nowhere or being stuck in a rut.

And this is what happens to us. God has a plan for our lives--plans for us to have abundant lives, joy, and happiness and to prosper as our souls prosper, but we think we know better than Him and make our own decisions without consulting Him and the Plan has to be modified until He can get us to see His plan is better. So, He waits for us and sometimes we see His plan coming together in our lives (when we obey) and sometimes we don't (when we refuse to accept His plan).

What is His plan? Salvation--atonement for all mankind for the sins we are capable of committing--Jesus made the sacrifice for all so we wouldn't have to do it. What a marvelous plan He has for our lives--Jews and Gentiles and anyone else who is willing to accept His plan through His Son.

I've lived enough of my life without His plan operating in my life to know that I prefer His Plan! His plan has been thoroughly detailed and He has forgotten absolutely nothing. The modification needed--is a change in my desire to see His plan work as He planned it, not me. Glory to God! Better seeing it late than not at all.

While I understand the tendency of people to blame God for all the bad stuff that happens in their lives, I always raise the question--what could I have done differently or how did I miss what You said? I'm not blaming Him for my missteps in life. Those were my decisions and I have to accept responsibility for them. Had I known earlier in my life that His plan was so much better; I would have listened--sooner.

For those who refuse to believe He is who He says He is and will do what He says He will do--for all who believe--I'm praying that you, too will learn to listen and accept what He has in store for you because His plan--is better than any plan you could ever have.

It's All Good!

"So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless." (I Corinthians 15:58 NLT)

No matter what happens in our daily lives--the good, the bad-the seemingly overwhelming odds we must overcome--we must remember that in the end--the victory is ours if we just stay strong, refusing to be moved by what we see, and know that what we do for the Lord--is all good.

After Paul explains in his letter to the church at Corinth how when we physically die, our corruptible bodies (subject to return to the dust of the earth) will rise incorruptible (spiritually) and we will never die again. Once we understand the purpose of the law (sin-driven) and the work of the cross (sin-defeated), we will have victory over sin--we can and must control our actions and then we have victory over death. Hallelujah!

Many of us get excited about a lot of things--new jobs, new cars, basketball teams, football teams, soccer teams, getting married--all sorts of things that we celebrate. Have we considered celebrating our victory over death? Do we really get excited about God's love for us--redeeming us from the law of sin and death?

If you think this is just about going to church (as a celebration)--think again. Celebrating victory over sin and death doesn't have to wait until the doors of the church open--we can celebrate Jesus every waking moment of our lives, excited about what He has done for us and willing to share the Good News with all we meet! We celebrate in our praises, in our dances, in our tears of joy, and in communicating His love with all we do. With joy in our hearts and a song on our lips--we celebrate His love for us! Glory to God!

And when we know what we know and do what we do that pleases Him--we know nothing we do is in vain--with His guidance in everything--it's all good, nothing ever useless and time never wasted in sharing the news!

Now think--really think--do you have a reason to celebrate Jesus today? If you know Him for yourself, you do--start right now, don't waste another minute--rise up from your beds of affliction and shout the victory in His name! If you don't know Him--now is a good time to get to know Him and understand what it is He has done for you--providing an avenue to forsake sin and have victory over death!

Let The Lord into your hearts today and receive all His many benefits--celebrating His love! Hallelujah!

Thank You Lord, for Your Love, for new mercies each morning, for victory over sin and death, for making sure no weapon formed against us will ever prosper, for making us the head, not the tail, for blessing us with success in all things we do to Your glory! Our God is awesome and He alone deserves all our praise! He's Worthy! There is None Like Him! Nobody can do for us what Jesus does and when we do--out of love--it's all good!

Preparation Matters!

"When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am" (John 14:3 NLT).

In the verse preceding this one, Jesus tells His disciples that there is more than enough room in His Father's house for everyone and He is going to prepare a place for us. Then, He says, He'll come back for us when everything is ready so we can be with Him, forever.

Every time I read scripture, I see more--gain greater insight into the words and enhance my comprehension--for the practical aspect of what is said.

"When everything is ready" means it is not already prepared for us and since we are still here; our mansions (rooms, homes) are still not ready. Why?

Preparation time is never wasted time. When we love people and invite them into our homes, we want them to be comfortable. Well, at least most of us do. On a practical level, we want to make sure that we have sufficient room, food, and an environment that will entice them to stay and know they are welcomed. That's for the visitors. How much preparation is made to bring home the new-born baby?

Now, we must consider much more in preparing to bring the baby home (again, most of us). Babies needs are much greater and now we must consider how to best care for the baby, so positioning of everything is important--where the crib goes, the changing table, convenience of formula, diapers, clothes, everything! It is important to know where everything is going to be before we need it!

How much time have we spent preparing for--anything in life? For school, for careers, for marriages, for living a Godly life? The lack of preparation for anything is a guarantee for failure in everything. Success does not come by osmosis--it requires planning--goal-setting, strategy-making plans for every level or step we take. Within the planning--we organize our thoughts and our steps and then implement. Sometimes, we may have to make adjustments along the way, but this is easily accomplished when we keep our eyes on the goal. When we are not organized--no order exists--and chaos reigns.

It's not too late to rethink where we are, where we're going and make the necessary preparations to get there so when we do get there, we can sit back and enjoy! That's for practical living. For the things of God--Prepare hearts to receive the Good News, Trust in the Lord, Stay in The Word, Obey His Word, and Accept the invitation to His Home.

Don't let the delay in His return concern you--He's still getting things ready for us! And when they are ready, He's coming back to get escort us home!

It's Time!

"There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee" (Joshua 1:5).

It's time for all of us to wake up and realize that where we are or aren't in life is entirely our responsibility!

NO MORE BLAME GAMES. OWN WHAT YOU HAVE OR HAVE NOT DONE TO GET WHERE YOU WANT TO BE!

We continue to look back at events in our pasts and point fingers at every negative situation and say, "that's why I couldn't do anything with my life." We lie and Satan is proclaimed our daddy!

Negative stuff happens to everyone at one time or another. What we "choose" to do with the negative reality will determine the positive or negative conclusions in our lives.

Abusive parents--no excuse.

Abusive spouse--no excuse.

Lack of education--no excuse.

Genetic predispositions to illnesses--no excuse.

Laziness--no excuse.

Procrastination--no excuse.

Daddy wasn't around--no excuse.

Mama wasn't around--no excuse.

Accidents that were not your fault--no excuse.

Foolish and unwise decisions--get over it and do something wise about it.

Poverty--no excuse.

Born into wealth--no excuse.

There are no excuses for anyone to be sad, despondent, and pitiful unless they just want to be--sad, despondent and pitiful.

Stop looking for excuses to validate and legitimize your failures and find (earnestly seek) reasons to succeed--at something--anything--everything!

Whose life is this anyway? It's your life and you are the only one who can determine what it is or what it will be by seeking The Lord and getting yourself aligned with His Word.

Get over yourself and your pitiful life and get going with Jesus because with Him, failure is not an option!

Thinking--Beyond Now!

"In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you, And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also" (John 14:2,3 NKJV).

Preparation time is never wasted time, but it is time that few people ever use appropriately because they lack initiative to think beyond the moment.

Look at what Jesus said to His disciples--"I go to prepare a place for you..." How long ago was that? Whether we count the time as two thousand years or two days, we have to see the plan--for us whenever we leave.

Lack of preparation and planning are the main reasons why many people never taste success at anything. We cannot succeed if we do not plan and prepare. Preparing for eventualities means we have to consider all the possible outcomes and plan for them.

Taking a trip requires preparation--determining the cost, the method of conveyance, appropriate clothing, checking weather conditions, having sufficient income to cover emergencies.

With Jesus' preparations He determined the cost was His life; He's conveying us to heaven by supernatural means; we'll be clothed with white robes, the weather will be glorious every day, and there are no emergencies to consider (no more sickness, no more dying, no hunger). Hallelujah! Praising Him for His preparations!

What are we doing? Have we considered our behavior and how it impacts the lives of others beyond this moment?

Retirement--(I've recently learned the hard way) takes consideration of all possible events and saving as much income as one possibly save--in order to make sure one can live (and not just exist) when they retire.

Death insurance--(commonly called life insurance)--is needed so there won't be a burden on those left behind to put us into the ground. There are enormous costs associated with dying and many people don't prepare for that eventuality. Unless Jesus returns before we die, we will die--and remain asleep until He comes.

Obesity--(a pet peeve)--causes a number of problems for people other than the one who has overeaten. Has any consideration been made for the possibility of someone else having to lift or carry them? Have they considered the possibility of their being harmed if they cannot move fast enough to get out of a burning house or car? Have they considered the negative impact that obesity usually has on their body? No one enjoys food more than I do, but I must also consider what would happen if I fell or needed assistance and no one being available to help me because of my weight. We need to think beyond the moment that food is in front of us and prepare for the future.

Care--for children and elderly--if parents are no longer able to care for children or elderly no longer able to care for themselves--who is going to do it? What preparations have been made for that possibility? Someone needs to prepare--in writing--if necessary plans for this possibility.

No one succeeds at anything without preparation--not athletes, not actors, not musicians, or singers, lawyers, doctors, teachers, parents, students--no one. If we really need a lesson in preparation--we can look to The Word and look around us at the squirrels and other animals that prepare for the winter and other seasons.  We can "watch the ants" and learn from them.

Learn to think beyond the moment and prepare for all those moments beyond the here and now!

Good Works Begun By A Good God!

"being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus" (Philippians 1:6 NIV).

Paul encouraged those at the church of Philippi by reminding them that God, who had initiated the good works they were doing, would see to it that they were accomplished.

If we look at what Paul was saying then, we can have the same confidence now about God. When He inspires us and motivates us into doing good works, He will make sure we will accomplish all that we start, if we hear Him. The key to seeing all that God has promised is in our willingness to hear Him and obey. God will never lead us down the wrong path because He has already established the path to our success. When we don't experience success in our lives, it is usually because we have veered off the path.

How do we veer off the path God has established? We either think we know better than God, are deceived by the enemy, or simply refuse to hear what God is saying, clearly. When He tells us to do certain things and we don't do them because they don't make sense to us, in essence, we tell God we know better than He does. When we allow the enemy to influence our thoughts and actions, we have been deceived and waste valuable time. And sometimes, we simply do not hear God clearly. We hear one part and do not continue to listen to hear the rest.

But God, who is faithful and just, will continue to steer us in the right direction even when we get confused and turned around from the direction He wants us to take. He never gives up on us and we should never give up on Him.

No matter what the situation looks like, when we know we are doing what God wants, stay on course. Don't stop! Never give up! Everything that God initiates will succeed, but the enemy loves to deceive us into thinking we are not succeeding. In those moments you feel like giving up--pray and seek God's direction, confirmation, and comfort. He will consistently confirm His Word to you and He will bring it to pass when we don't give up.

Father, in the name of Jesus, help us to understand that when we hear You speak to us and give us direction, we can place our total trust and faith in You to see it come to pass. We have no need to worry or be fearful of not succeeding. Thank You for hearing and responding to this prayer so we may do all things well to Your glory. Amen!
