Remember the word to Your servant,The seventh letter and the seventh stanza continue with the writer's communion with God.
Upon which You have caused me to hope.
This is my comfort in my affliction,
For Your word has given me life.
The proud have me in great derision,
Yet I do not turn aside from Your law.
I remembered Your judgments of old, O LORD,
And have comforted myself.
Indignation has taken hold of me
Because of the wicked, who forsake Your law.
Your statutes have been my songs
In the house of my pilgrimage.
I remember Your name in the night, O LORD,
And I keep Your law.
This has become mine,
Because I kept Your precepts. Psalm 119:49-56 NKJV
Can we say--of our own relationship with God through Jesus Christ--that we spend time communing with God--acknowledging Him for all He has done and how we feel about Him?
That's what the writer is doing. He tells God that His Word has given him hope and comfort when everyone else around him chooses to mock him. And he declares that no matter how other people act, he will hold fast to God's laws and principles.
Do we hold onto God's Word to comfort us in times of upheaval and derision by those who have forsaken God (if they ever knew Him)? Are we determined to maintain God's principles in our lives no matter what others do?
Do we become righteously indignant when we see wickedness perpetrated by others or do we simply sit back and watch? The writer says he becomes indignant and remembers God's judgments. Do we?
It is apparent from some of the events decided by the justices Supreme Court that they have either forgotten or never knew God. Any time we call what God has called evil or wicked right and what God has called right--evil or wicked--we openly declare our opposition to God's Word and for those who proclaim to Believe God to accept wickedness instead of God's Word, shame on us!
Where is our righteous indignation? Do we not remember God's judgments over a people who distorted His intent for mankind in years gone by? Do we not understand that wickedness approved in high places opens the door for wickedness to abide in the hearts of people in all places? If ever there was a time for us to understand why the world is in the condition it is in, we need to look no further than those in positions of leadership and see what they have done to cause God to remove His hand of protection from us.
There may be a remnant--a small group of people--who will adhere to God's Word no matter what because we understand that without God's Word to guide us in all we do--there is nothing left but chaos. There are those of us who do take comfort in God's Word and are determined to spread His Word and live according to it--no matter what the prince of the earth instills in the hearts of those who follow evil.
We're singing songs about God's goodness, grace and mercy, while the evil one promotes injustice and ungodliness. We're holding onto all God has promised us in His Word, staunchly looking forward and refusing to give ground to the enemy's ploys in our lives. We are calling upon The Lord late at night, early in the morning and throughout the day for we know, there is no other name by which we can be saved other than the name of Jesus!
Are we yet--as the writer is--totally aware of how God wants us to live and determined to be obedient to Him?
